We have noticed that the grandparents’ generation is the one that stands out most concerning spare time. In their generation, religion was predominant and our grandparents spent a lot of their spare time going to church or studying catechism.
They didn’t go out much and didn’t know technology.
As for the generation of our parents, it saw the emergence of the first video games, the cell phones and experienced more freedom.
Our generation grew up surrounded by cybertechnology and enjoyed more freedom and leisure time.
Answer to the main question / Conclusion : How has the way that teenagers spend their spare time changed ?
Finally, we can group our parents’ generation and ours by their similarities. But the grandparents’ generation is much different from the next ones.
For example, we learnt that they had to help their parents with the household chores so they didn’t have a lot of free time.
Our parents had more leisure time because their parents were not so demanding with them. They didn’t have to do the housework for instance
Our generation today has more freedom and spend a lot of their spare time on their computers. They hang out with friends. They chat on social networks.
We learnt a lot about what our parents and parents did in their spare time. And we realised we have a very different lifestyle from them. Technology and the internet play a much big part in our lives, more than they did in the past.
Comparison of our outcomes with the results of Jasudben M.L School:
In both countries, we have more spare time than the previous generations. We have similar occupations (social media, seeing friends).
Reflection : What went well? What was difficult ?
We were able to conduct the interviews conveniently.
It was difficult to share the tasks and work together outside class because we live far from each other
We liked the videoconference with India. It was very interesting to ask Indian students questions on our common topic.
We couldn’t communicate with the students of India on Whatsapp because we don’t have whatsapp on their phones.
It was very difficult to meet the deadlines as it took us a long time to write the research report and because we start school at the end of Januray (after the Christmas break) we lacked the time to finish our article.
We should have added photos of our parents and grandparents but the time was too short.
